Evaluation question 5: How did you attract/appeal to your audience?

In order to appeal to my target audience, I did different stages of planning and research. This included my textual analysis, primary and secondary research along with various other stages like photography research and getting feedback on my first drafts. This research initially changed my ideas to suit the audience as this would be a product to identify with them. It gave me an understanding of what they were attracted to and didn't like, also showing me different methods to appeal to them.
I have also done some additional audience research by creating a survey using Survey Monkey. This helps analyse the results and give statistics on what people liked and disliked in my magazine, also leaving room for additional comments.




Additional Comments:
This audience feedback has shown me what attracts them and how accurate it is in targeting them. Especially showing what they would improve in my products and also showing the good factors that they liked. My audience understood that the genre was of a pop-punk/ pop-rock basis which was good although telling me that I could have tweaked it to be slightly more pop-punk and giving a clear understanding to my audience. The images and layout was generally liked and easy for my audience to understand which they liked although some people disliked some of the images used and thought they could have been edited a little more, though this was a minority and overall my audience liked them. A factor that was brought up with my audience throughout was mainly to have more variation in fonts and some in colour, perhaps this would have drawn them into the magazine more and worked better. Overall, there were some areas for improvement, but mostly it attracted and appealed to my audience.

Evaluation question 4: Who would be the audience for my media product?

Media audience

My target audience is 15-24 year olds with an equal split in gender as I had decided based off of the gender ratio for Kerrang which is 41% female and 59% male from my secondary research.

My audience are likely to be fans of Kerrang and Rock Sound already because it would keep them up to date with the current music they are fans of, like Green Day, Blink 182, Paramore and My Chemical Romance. They would probably tend towards listening to Kerrang Radio and Television as they are the main stations for popular and current rock and pop-punk music. They would spend large amounts of money going to gigs and festivals such as Reading and Leeds, they have an ABC1 profile and therefore would be able to afford these big gigs and festivals. Their clothing and styles would come from Grindstore or similar shops which focus on rock fashion and merch, other brands they'd own would be converse and vans. They may also play instruments such as guitar, bass or drums. In their spare time they would use laptops to go on social networking sites like, Facebook, Twitter and YouTube as it keeps them up to date on what's happening in their social life and other interests. This leads to their interests in technology and gaming, using brands such as Apple, Xbox and PlayStation. Because they are a young audience they probably like unhealthy fast food such as KFC and Greggs, also because it is cheep and in their youth, they'll be on the go and rebellious, not caring fully for themselves yet.

My secondary audience research gave me more of an insight into the audience I was targeting and their interests. it told me what they liked in the Kerrang and Rock Sound magazines. This allowed me to adapt that into my own magazine and what they would be most drawn to. I asked teenagers who would be my target about those magazines and their likes and dislikes with both, giving my an idea of what to put into my own magazine using the same target audience for more of a niche, but similar genre of music. This left me with a target audience of 15-24 year olds and with a split in gender. My audience would probably be within the BC1 class.
